    BRL: Braille Through Remote Learning

    Welcome back!

As you probably already know, your work up to September 30, 1999 has been supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Through this funding, we were tasked with developing the materials, with looking at the effectiveness of braille instruction via the Web, and with experimenting with new Internet tools and technologies. One of the many lessons that we learned is that the most successful students were those whose work was evaluated by a real-live human being! The feedback that a real instructor provides is an invaluable part of the learning process!

Now that our grant funds are gone, we need to be able to support the online instructors, and that is why we are charging a fee. We are only charging a fee if you want your work to be evaluated by one of the online instructors. The materials will be available free of charge, and we are working to create downloadable answer keys for many of the exercises. If, however, you wish us to evaluate your work, provide feedback, maintain a gradebook file for you, you will need to select the "full support" option. We will work with each of you individually to determine a fair fee for the full support option. For example, if you have finished seven of the 12 sessions in the Intro to Braille course, you do not need to pay the full $100 fee. Your fee would be 5 x $8.50 = $42.50 for the remainder of the course. Work previously completed will still be included in our gradebook database.

If you choose the "limited support" option, the fee is $25.00 (versus $50.00) regardless of how many of the sessions you have completed.

PLEASE RE-REGISTER using the form, even if you have already registered. Your new registration form will go into a separate account from the previous ones!
