Transcribing of poetry is one of those areas that is perhaps best illustrated by examples. We have included the complete rule on poetry from the Braille Formats rulebook.
Probably the singlemost challenge in doing poetry is the preservation of "look and feel." This is especially true for pattern poetry, in which the visual setup of the poem is designed to reflect some mood or concept. Division of stanzas, divided or incomplete poetic lines, indentations, line numbers, and specialized notations are all matters of concern for the transcriber of poetry.
Some examples:
- Sample poem with incomplete lines
- Poem fragment with asterisked footnote and a line number
- Poem fragment with asterisked footnote, line number, and unusual spacing
- Short narrative text with poem fragment with detailed scansion markings/a>
